Professionals are still searching for and speculating on the origins of Asperger Syndrome. One suggestion is that it is the result of a misorganization of the brain during formation. Many differences have been found between how the brain of someone with AS functions and how the brain of someone without the disorder functions, indicating that it is indeed a neurobiological disorder (National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, 2008). Again, researchers have yet to identify what causes the misorganization of the brain, but it does appear to be linked to heredity.
