About the WCU Trombone/Euphonium Studio |
The School of Music at Western Carolina is quite strong, offering a wide variety of performing and learning opportunities. Our low brass students currently play in the following ensembles: Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band, Jazz Ensemble, Artist in Residence Orchestra, Civic Orchestra, Marching Band, Trombone Ensemble, Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble, and student chamber music groups. There are also many opportunities to perform on recitals as a soloist. Members of the studio each receive a weekly lesson with me as well as group instruction in our Principals Class. Each individual student is important to both the School of Music and the Low Brass Studio. In addition to my teaching, I have played both trombone and euphonium professionally in orchestras and bands, as well as various jazz and chamber groups. It is important for any low brass musician to have a wide variety of performing experiences from which to draw, and I encourage my students to hone their skills through the study of a wide variety of music literature in various styles. Choosing the right college is an important decision, and for music students, finding the right “fit” between student and teacher is a key factor in that decision. I work hard to help each of my students reach their full potential. Together we can accomplish a great deal while having fun doing what we love – making music.
