A Brief Intro to Google Classroom

3. Google and Chrome hand in hand allow for some powerful tools you can use for your classroom including (Google) Classroom. This week you will explore some of the options that the Google Suite of Tools has to offer.
   
   
4. Getting Google-y: So far we've used Google: Blogger (blogspot), Sites, Drive, Jamboard, and gmail. Here are a few more to consider:
   • Google Scholar: https://scholar.google.com/
     This tool is very useful in finding research related to a particular topic. You can often access the entire article by using the link to the right of the citation. You can also get the article citation in a variety of formats (e.g. APA, MLA, etc.)
     
     
   • Google Keep: https://keep.google.com/ allows you to keep notes, add images, create checklists, and sync all of this across multiple devices.
     
   • Go to the Chrome store and search "Keep". When you see the results, right click and choose "Pin to shelf" It can also run offine (these apps are indicated in the Chrome store) by a lightening bolt. Every time you log into Chrome on any device, your Keep notes will be accessble.
     
   • Next, search on "Files" your results will show a round blue circle with folder in it. Right click on this icon and choose "Pin to Shelf"
   • Google Forms: Go to Google Drive >> New >> More >> Google Forms
     You can create forms to can share via a link to gather data; we do this A LOT in our class. Some teachers use this for quizzes and homework as well.

   • Google Classroom:
     
     • Search on Google Classroom, click the link, and log in with your class account. When you are in your Google Classroom dashboard, click the + (plus) to "Join a class". MAKE SURE TO ADD YOURSELF TO THE CORRECT SECTION USING THE CODE FOR YOUR CLASS.

     • Let's explore the options using the example assignments posted. These are resources and links shared from various websites. Teachers can add content from a website or web 2.0 tool (e.g. Quizlet) directly to Google Classroom using the "Share" option for that website >> Select Google Classroom and then choose the class(es) to which to add the resource. NOTE: You must be logged into your Classroom account for this to work

       • Web 2.0 Tool - Quizlet (must be logged into Quizlet with free account and Google Classroom and/or Chrome)
         
         
       • Next, we'll explore one of the many tools that are often used in Google Classroom, Nearpod: https://nearpod.com/
         
         
       • From within your section of Digital Literacy in Google Classroom (EDEL 446 or EDMG 466), click on the Nearpod assignment and let's go through the material together. No login needed for students. If you wish to get a free teacher account, you can do so with your class gmail account. Many of the schools in our region are using this tool for in-class as well as remote learning.
         
         
     • What are Google Extensions and Google Apps? These are tools you can add directly into your Google Chrome Browser (extensions) or can add to a list or collection of apps to access (NOTE: Many of these are just links to websites for web 2.0 tools)

1. From within your class gmail account, create a form with a Name (short answer) field, and at least THREE questions all of which you designate as required (designated by red *) Copy/Paste your form link into a shared Google Sheets document. NOTE: If your school uses G Suite for Education (Google tools like Classroom, Docs, and Meets), consider creating a Google Form you can use for your students, colleagues, or families.
