            CassellÕs French/English Dictionary (Purchase)

 

IV.  Course Objectives:   By the end of this course, students will be able to:

1.  Write limited German and French language in the IPA.

2.  Understand and apply the physical postures of proper articulation and proper pronunciation of German and French.

3.  Increase knowledge of German and French song literature.

4.  Develop assessment tools in order to evaluate other singersÕ singing of German and French

5.  Synthesize their personal knowledge of IPA and pronunciation skills through  performances of German and French songs.

 

V.  Course Requirements:

 

  1. Attendance – Attendance is imperative for success.  You are granted 3 absences (excused or unexcused).  Any other absences will result in the lowering of your final letter grade one letter for each absence.

 

  1. Completion of all assignments – There will be homework, exit papers and other written or performance assignments throughout the semester.  In order to pass this course, all must e completed.

 

  1. Listening – In order to refine your German and French, listening is imperative.  There will be listening offered during class time.  However, listening outside of class is critical. 

 

  1. Public Performance – Students are required to perform 2 selections each in  German and French.  These will be performed in a public recital and will be graded. 

 

  1.  Performance in class – These will be casual, but will lead to the recital performance.  It is expected that students will learn both by performing and by critiquing each other.

 

  1. Portfolio – A portfolio will be required for both languages.  This portfolio will contain both a written portion as well as an oral presentation.  Details will be forthcoming.

 

  1. Quizzes and Exams.  There will be a formal exam at the end of each language.  There may also be other quizzes or evaluation experiences throughout the semester. 

 

VI.  Grading Policy:  50% of your grade will be determined by your performance in each language.
