Characteristics:  

Sleepwalking disorder is characterized by repeated rising from bed during sleep, and walking about, or performing other complex behaviors while remaining asleep.
                                       Most often occurs in children from walking toddler to twelve years old, but may occur, and persist, even into adulthood.
                                       Many children also experience night terrors.

  • wide open eyes with a blank, staring expression                                                                                              
  • talk or shout

  • out of place behaviors, such as urinating somewhere besides the commode, or falling asleep somewhere else besides the bed

  • walk around the room; can seek escape through window or door; often go outdoors
  • leave room, often approaching parent's bedroom or light
  • difficult to awaken
  • no memory for events when they waken 
  • Adult sleepwalkers try to drive, hallucinate, or perform sexually explicit behaviors.
