REMOTE LESSON: FOR THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 8, 2021
All activities due by midnight Monday, Feb 15
TASK ONE: INTERACTIVE WHITE BOARDS (IWB) such as SMARTboards and Promethean ActivBoards
Read and reflect on the following article from our Interactive White Boards (IWB) readings folder in Blackboard for :
Türel, Y. K., & Johnson, T. E. (2012). Teachers' Belief and Use of Interactive Whiteboards for Teaching and Learning. Educational Technology & Society, 15(1), 381-394.
NOTE: You should read the whole article and not just the pages noted for this assignment!
On page 382 of the Turel article, there are two bulleted lists; one lists instructional strategies and the other benefits to the use of IWBs. Read through and think about these strategies and benefits. Choose THREE that you like and that stand out as applicable to your teaching philosophy or that you think will be useful in your current and future teaching. List the three you chose and tell why you find them interesting or useful. Be specific with details related to your subject area and/or your grade level.
Later in the article, there are results from this study. Read through the Results section of the article (pg. 385-389) and choose ONE result from the data collected and analyzed to discuss (e.g. how teachers learn to use IWBs, which features of the IWB they use the most, frequency of use, training needs, etc.) Why do you find this interesting? What do you think it means? Why is it important for us to know?
Bring your notes to class to support our class discussion of IWBs. Like before, please submit your notes using this Google Form and you may hand write them or type them out. https://forms.gle/fCpFJ87WmpRHDrA9A

A Brief Overview of Flippity
A tool that uses Google Sheets to create teacher tools
This is a new favorite tool that works with Google Sheets to create:
Flash cards
Jeopardy-type quiz games
Word searches, crossword puzzles, unscramble
Mad Libs (if you do this one, you have to create your own stories not use the sample ones given)
Bingo
Matching games
And more.....
How to create flashcards with Flippity
NOTE: This will help you with process with any of the tools.
Web 2.0 #1 Flippity to support instruction - Create your own digital activity based on a lesson you wish to or WILL teach. Start with the lesson standard and objective as your focus. NOTE: This is a suggestion but not a requirement. If you are not sure of a standard you will teach, you are free to choose something you think could be useful in your current placement. The objective is for you to learn to use Flippity but also to create something that you can also use in one of your lessons for Intern I - "Work smarter not harder." :-)

Follow the steps shown in the video above to create an instructional activity for your students. You must create NEW content that matches the grade level and content for your students. Do not use the sample content that is in the template - replace it with your own!
You must be logged into your class Google Account and Flippity will prompt you to do this
MOST FREQUENT ERROR: Forgetting to publish before copying link to your website. DON'T FORGET TO FILE >>PUBLISH TO THE WEBwhen you are finished adding your content. Then go to get the link to your game or instructional material.
ELED/INED: You can send the link to your CE for him/her to use if s/he wishes or you can use it for one of your lessons

Description: Describe with concrete details and examples what the tool is and what it can do.
(1 *robust* paragraph)
Application to Teaching: Next describe 2-3 specific ways with examples that teachers and students could use the tool in the classroom to support teaching, learning and other "teacher work" such as professional development, communication with families, etc. Consider ties to the curriculum and/or to social-emotional learning. (2-3 *robust* paragraphs)
