  1. Throughout the course both Face-to-Face and Remote/Online, we've used a variety of web 2.0 tools for a variety of purposes. These tools can be used for a variety of purposes (Padlet, Whiteboard.fi) including for assessment purposes (edPuzzle, FlipGrid) or to create something instructional for your students(Flippity, Animoto) .

  2. I'd like you to EXPLORE two more "cool tools for school" and perhaps bookmark them for later to support your lessons or want to give it to your students so they can show what they know or share who they are (e.g. digital stories).

TASK ONE (and only):
Two more web 2.0 tools that could support digital storytelling.

      This is a very straightforward tool that many schools use to record audio online and on the fly. There are not many parts to it as it only does one thing - record audio and offer the means to share it via QR code, URL (web link), or as a file you can download. NOTE: If you get the message to allow access to your computer's microphone in settings, go to your settings to allow this (Settings >> Content >> Microphone)

      You may be familiar with other image editing tools but this one offers a wide variety of options and is cloud-based (nothing to install on your computer). You can use your own images or theirs to modify with text, filters, stamps (hats, hearts, etc.), and

Some of you had Dr. Tracy and may remember the Six Word Memoir piece that you wrote for her class. In six words, you wrote an autobiography that represented a core part of yourself. We are going to riff on that and write a Five Word Response that shares one perspective you have on the times we are in as a result of Covid-19.

First, refer to the examples at the top of this page to see samples of what you will create- serious, heartfelt, humorous, etc.

  1. Start with Five Words. Write about what you are experiencing as a result of the pandemic. There are no rules except to be both appropriate and creative. The rest is up to you.

  2. Once you've crafted your five words, record them with expression using Vocaroo https://vocaroo.com/. Remember you can re-record as much as you wish by reclicking the red "Record" button. No, you may not use your phone. I want you to show you can use Vocaroo as this is a tool that is used in many schools by children of all ages. And, it's really straightforward and won't take much time at all.

    Once you have a recording you like, click "Save and Share" to show your options for sharing. Copy the web address (URL) for your recording. You will add this link to a Google Slide (directions follow). For now, just keep the page open or paste the link somewhere you will be able to get it later.

  3. Next, go to one of the copyright free websites we've explored in class. NOTE: Make sure it is copyright free! It can get a little tricky with some of these sites since paid content is often at the top or bottom of the page. Avoid "Shutterstock", etc, or any images with a watermark layer over the image. Let me know if you have questions on this and a few to consider are:
  4. Choose and download an image that you feel matches your recording. This is *your* interpretation, so be as creative as you wish (NOTE: Please avoid the adult content - thanks!)

  5. Now go to BeFunky https://www.befunky.com/create/photo-editor/ and "Open" (menu at the top of the page) the CC0 (copyright free) image you chose to fit with your Five Word Response recording from your computer. Add text (see A from left menu). It can be just your name, the entire piece (your Five Words), or any combination. The only criteria is that you MUST add some text to show proficiency with Be Funky. If you wish, you can also use other options available in BeFunky (filters, etc.) but this is optional and entirely your choice. Save your final image to your computer using the "Save" option at the top of the page.

  6. Once you've done both parts, you will add both to a Google Slide following these directions and then share the link to your Google Slide via this Google Form:https://forms.gle/jiJT6eSy1Ss425QS8
    • USE CHROME and log into your class gmail account.
    • Click this link to make a COPY of the Google Slide on which you will put your image and link to your recording

    • After looking at the example, delete this first slide (Edit >> Delete) leaving only the one you will create
    • On your slide, add a title and your name in the text box at the top of the screen (where it says "My Five Words by <your name here>")
    • Using the "Insert" >> "Image" >> "Upload from computer" menus, add your image for your Five Words piece to the Google Slide
    • Under this, add the link to your Vocaroo recording
    • Somewhere on the page add the credit/citation for where you got the image (e.g. Image from Pixabay)
    • Once all your creative work has been added, click the yellow "Share" button and copy the link to your Google Slide to submit in the Google Form: https://forms.gle/jiJT6eSy1Ss425QS8

What's up with this assignment? This shows that you are a tech-using teacher that can not only use web 2.0 tools but also COMBINE them for creative and instructional purposes. This is the culmination of what we've been working toward all semester. Go you - Technonistas and Techonistos!

FYI: All these resources! How can we keep them organized or curate them into lists/categories?

  • Diigo http://www.diigo.com With this you can store and share web-based resources with students or your peers by just sending them a link. You can also create groups by setting up tags. You can add this to your Chrome toolbar as an extension for greater convenience. Let's do this:
    • Go to the Google app store by using the rainbow suitcase icon in the top left of the toolbar.
    • Search for diigo
    • For Diigo Web Collector, click the blue button to Add to Chrome
    • Locate it in the top right of your toolbar
    • Go to Web 2.0 tools from Nicole Dalesio: http://www.edutopia.org/tech-to-learn-free-online-resources-video
    • Now, save this to your Diigo collection by clicking on the Diigo icon (blue square with white D) and then "Save Bookmark"
    • Give it a new category name or "tag" (these are reusable for other bookmarks) - "web2.0"

  • Symbaloo http://www.symbaloo.com/ This resource creates sets of tiles called "webmixes" that can be arranged topically. Each tile links to a website or resource on the web a little like Pinterest but with more focus on the site and not the image.
