Interview Procedures
All applicants for the MAT must satisfy the admissions requirements for the College of Education and Applied Professions and interview with a committee of representative faculty from Music, the College of Education and Allied Professions and the School of Music Graduate Program Director. A brief audition must be performed at the time of the interview. In lieu of a live audition, an applicant may submit a DVD of a RECENT performance (i.e. senior recital, or other recent performance). Interviews must be arranged through the School of Music Graduate Program Coordinator, Dr. Mary Kay Bauer. ( mkbauer@email.wcu.edu/828-227-3275 ). DVD submissions will also be approved by Dr. Bauer. Portfolio materials and/or recordings are not required for this interview.
If further study on an instrument is desired, MAED students may audition for admission into a studio, subject to available space.
All students enrolled in the MAED must have proof of piano proficiency prior to graduation. This may be provided in one of the following ways:
Undergraduate transcripts provides proof of piano proficiency
Undergraduate university provides a letter proving piano proficiency
