Admission Procedures:
Admission as a Music Masters Student requires admission to the Graduate School AND the School of Music . In addition, the students enrolled in the MAED or MAT will require approval from the College of Education and Allied Professions. All music graduate students must take the entrance exams in music theory, music history and provide a writing sample.
Step 1. Admission to the Graduate School requires the following:
¥ Application and $40.00 application fee. Western Carolina University - Forms & Manuals
¥ Satisfactory score on the general portion of the GRE. (For music, students must score a minimum of 800 total.)
¥ Completed bachelors degree in music - MAED candidates must hold a bachelors degree in music education.
¥ 3 letters of recommendation
¥ Submission of official transcripts.
Step 2. Admission to the School of Music :

. Successful completion of an entrance interview AND performance audition on a primary instrument.

Successful passing of the Music Entrance
Examinations.

Demonstration of music learning leadership skills/potential

Submission of a Video Recording (Tape or DVD) or
other recording of a live conducting event (such as a performance or class or
rehearsal) OR Submission of a Video Recording of recent performance on an instrument or voice OR Live
audition. Students may be required
to demonstrate conducting proficiency in a live conducting demonstration. This demonstration may include sight
singing a monotone rhythm while conducting a simple piece.
