My Wall of Heroes

I got the idea of putting pictures of various persons (personal heroes) up on a wall in my office as the result of a visit I made to Monticello.  Thomas Jefferson had portraits and marble busts of individuals both contemporary and historical whom he admired appointing his quarters.  There is value it seems to me in reminding oneself of persons who have in their own moment in time exemplified what might be regarded as what is the best about our specie as one irrevocably proceeds with the expenditure of one’s own life.

I have six such reminders pictured on my wall.  They are, going left to right and top to bottom, Nelson Mandela, Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, Rosa Parks, Sir Thomas More, Martin Luther King, and Karl Polanyi.

My choices to picture and display these particular individuals are personal.  Therefore, may it be sufficient for me to merely say that I chose the individuals I did because at various times in my own life at least one of their stories was an edifying source of strength or guidance for me.  I hope to add more.
