Hunter Library Database Changes
Spring, 2006
Greetings,
NCLive, the state-funded database repository, recently renegotiated contracts on all database subscriptions. The result is some wonderful additions, excellent upgrades, and surprising deletions of resources that will affect College of Business students and faculty. In addition, Hunter Library has subscribed to the Hospitality & Tourism Index, effective immediately, and Standard & Poor’s NetAdvantage earlier in the semester. Mergent Online will be discontinued as of April 6, 2006.
New databases:
Morningstar Library Edition (description)
Investment research for stocks and mutual funds.
Reference USA (description)
Detailed information on over 12 million businesses. Includes impressive report-building functions.
Hospitality & Tourism Index with Full Text (description)
Standard & Poor’s NetAdvantage
Upgrades & Changes:
Business Source Elite to Business Source Premier (description)
Academic Search Elite to Academic Search Premier (description)
PsycInfo—vendor change (description)
Deletions:
ABI/Inform Complete
Hoover’s Company Records
Kiplinger Finance & Forecasts
InfoTrac OneFile
LegalTrac
NCLive will keep ProQuest Newspapers which provides full-text access to the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and major North Carolina newspapers.
I recognize that losing ABI/Inform may rock some worlds, but I recommend using Business Source Premier. A 2003 comparison in The Charleston Advisor of the two databases rates the content of Business Source Premier superior to that of ABI/Inform. Since that time, BSP has been aggressively increasing their depth of content.
