1.             Please download the SPSS data file assign2data.sav.  This data file will contain 3 variables: “normalit”, “chutetim”, and “shift”.  Once downloaded, open this file within SPSS and test the “normalit” variable for normality.  Cut and paste your output and e-mail it directly to me.  Also include your conclusion about whether or not the data are normally distributed.

2.         Your boss has indicated to you that he believes the out-of-chute times are excessively long on the night shift.  Therefore, he concludes, “the night shift folks are clearly slacking off and we need to deal with them.”  You, however, being an astute statistician, ask for calm while you look into the matter further.  You surmise that there may not be any real difference between the day and night shift and that the observed difference is purely due to sampling error.  You collect out-of-chute time data from 50 call reports. The variable for these data is named “chutetim” in the SPSS data file you just downloaded.  The “shift” variable is coded as day shift = 0 and night shift = 1 Using the correct statistical test, determine whether or not there is a true difference in out-of-chute times.  Copy and paste your statistical analysis and your conclusion e-mail directly to me by the due date.
