Learning Styles Assessment

 

You have probably noticed that when you try to learn something new that you prefer to learn by listening to someone talk to you about the information. Some people prefer to read about a concept to learn it; others need to see a demonstration of the concept. Learning Style Theory proposes that different people learn in different ways and that it is good to know what your own learning style preference.   Knowing this information can help you develop study strategies that will be the most effective.  In addition, by your professors knowing the dominant learning styles of the class, we can develop course materials and teaching styles that will benefit you the most.

 

Your assignment is to complete the 4 learning style inventories below and email the results to your instructor.

 

  1. Grasha-Riechmann Student Learning Style Scales (GRSLSS)

 

Log on at http://www.ltseries.com/LTS/sitepgs/GRSLSS/ls_invent.htm and complete the inventory.  This is a free service.  Your username is “grslss” and your password is “guest”.  Be sure to enter your name where requested.  Once you’ve completed the inventory, email your results for each section to your instructor.  You can then learn more about your learning style at http://www.ltseries.com/LTS/sitepgs/GRSLSS/styles.htm . 

 

  1. Index of Learning Styles (ILS)

 

Log on at http://www.ncsu.edu/felder-public/ILSdir/ilsweb.html and complete the inventory.  This is a free service.  Be sure to enter your name where requested.  Once you’ve completed the inventory, email your results for each section to your instructor.  You can then learn more about your learning style at http://www.ncsu.edu/felder-public/ILSdir/styles.htm .

 

  1. Kolb Learning Style

 

This inventory is a fee for service site.  The fee has been paid by WCU.  Please follow the directions below.  Be sure to enter your name where requested.  Please be sure to complete the inventory before leaving the website.  WCU is charged each time you take the inventory, so please be careful to finish the inventory in its entirety.

 

a.       Using Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator 4.0 or higher, go to http://trgmcber.haygroup.com/LSI/default-new.asp?oz=281

b.      Enter your own username and a six character (EXACTLY SIX) personal password, and then the organizational password (Your organizational password is: 0807wc).

 

c.       Take the test.  You must answer the questions in order, and you must answer all of the questions.

 

d.      You should now see your results.  You may print them, or return to them at any time by going to http://trgmcber.haygroup.com/LSI and entering your personal username and password.

 

e.       Email your results to your instructor.

 

  1. Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI)

 

This inventory is a fee for service site.  The fee has been paid by WCU.  Please follow the directions below.  Be sure to enter your name where requested.  Please be sure to complete the inventory before leaving the website.  WCU is charged each time you take the inventory, so please be careful to finish the inventory in its entirety.

b.      This URL will take you to a web page that contans directions for taking the LASSI.  After you have read these directions, you must enter the information below to continue.
