Integrated Curriculum in Physical
Education Project
Cooperative Groups
Purpose of the Project:
-
To work cooperatively with a group of peers.
-
To gain an understanding of the interdisciplinary model of teaching physical
education.
-
To learn new “integrated curriculum” activities for the physical education
and elementary classroom settings.
Procedures:
-
Meet together as a group to determine a plan for your activity. You
may select an activity from one of several sources.
-
(Hint: try Project Wild/Project Learning Tree, or the resources listed
on your syllabus, etc.)
-
Prepare the academic component of the lesson (i.e., background information,
key concepts, the progression of tasks, etc.).
-
Provide a written explanation of the activity. Be sure to use include
the types of skill themes and movement concepts that will be utilized in
the activity.
-
Arrange for all necessary equipment ahead of time.
-
You should practice the activity at least once before you present it to
the class.
-
Each lesson should last approximately 15 minutes (no fewer than 10).
Evaluation:
The project is worth 20% of each group member’s grade. Every individual’s
equal contribution is expected in the preparation and execution phase
of this project. The group is expected to “police” itself in
this regard. A self and group report afterward will determine the
level of input by the
individuals. Note: My observation will consist of identifying
the roles played by each of the group members, the academic content of
the lesson, and
the general presentation of the activity.
