The Carole Hearn Curtis Scholarship

To support Graduate Counseling Students
Counseling Program
Western Carolina University
The Carole Hearn Curtis Scholarship has been established in memory of
the late Ms. Carole Hearn Curtis. Ms. Curtis's son, Dr. Russ Curtis, is an
associate professor in the clinical counseling program at Western
Carolina University (WCU) where he has served since 2000. The Carole Hearn Curtis Scholarship
will provide financial support to graduate students enrolled in the WCU counseling program.
On average, WCU counseling students finish their graduate degrees with $10,000 of school related
debt and begin their counseling careers in jobs starting at $34,000. WCU students make these
financial sacrifices because they are dedicated and altruistic individuals whose passion is helping
others. Thus, the purpose of the Carole Hearn Scholarship is to help offset some of the cost of
graduate education for these very unselfish and talented students.
