Wind Ensemble

Meeting Times:              

Monday and Wednesday; 4:00 – 5:50 pm  Room #173

 

Purposes           

Rehearsal Procedures:

• Rehearsals will begin promptly at 4:00.  It is the musician's responsibility to be ready to play at that time.  Students must allow enough time to warm up properly before rehearsals begin.   Percussionists will need to arrive early enough to have equipment ready at the start of rehearsal.
• A weekly rehearsal schedule will be posted on the bandroom door.  You may not  be needed to play on every piece but it is your responsibility to know when your services are required.
• Remember to bring all necessary equipment to every rehearsal.  Everyone must have a pencil at rehearsals.

 

Grading Procedures:

Grades are determined on the basis of attendance and rehearsal preparation.  With rehearsal time at the absolute minimum, it is imperative that all musicians attend all rehearsals.  The only excusable absences are sickness or family emergency.  Any other absence must be excused in advance by Dr. West or it will result in grade reduction. Unexcused absence from a performance will result in a failing grade.

Each musician is expected to prepare all of the music in the folder outside of rehearsal time.  This means that adequate practice time must be allotted for the preparation of Wind Ensemble music.  If a student continues to come to rehearsal unprepared, the grade will be lowered.  If you need help in preparing any part, see Dr. West during office hours.                       

Concert Dress

Concert attire is formal black. 

Ladies:  solid black skirt/dress/pants (ankle-length to floor length when seated), solid black blouse/top (not sleeveless), plain black hose, black dress shoes

Men:  tuxedo, black tie, white shirt, black socks, black dress shoes

General Restrictions – No patterns, colors, or decorative adornments on any clothing. No sandals, or other informal footwear. No black denim. Ladies – short skirts (even if worn with black hose) are not acceptable and “bare-midriff” tops are not appropriate for the concert stage.
