Activities for Guests:  Arts and crafts, music, eclectic dining, hiking, rafting, and scenic byways are all around you in Asheville. We’ve listed some suggestions for things to see and do here. For more ideas visit the Asheville Chamber of Commerce. Stop by the Asheville Activities table at the meeting for directions, do-it-yourself tours, and to sign up organized trips.
 
Organized trips
  Please contact Kathy Mathews to sign up for these organized trips occurring Saturday, April 10. You’ll also find these and other nearby outfitters listed below if you prefer to adventure on your own.

     French Broad River Canoe Trip, Asheville, NC. Saturday, 8:00 am-12:00 pm. Outfitted by the Asheville Outdoor Center (http://www.paddlewithus.com). Cost: $22.00-30.00. This self-guided, 3-hour, 7-mile river trip is an excellent beginner trip suitable for families and children. Carving its way through the Biltmore Estate Property, with great views of the house and some of the oldest mountains on earth, this quiet, scenic float trip features small waves and easy current and has all the variety for a fun filled day on the river. The river otter, soft-shell turtle, pileated wood pecker, Carolina wren and great blue heron are all likely to be seen when floating this relaxing trip on the French Broad River.

     French Broad Whitewater Rafting, Madison Co., NC. Saturday, time TBA. Guided by French Broad Rafting Expeditions (http://www.frenchbroadrafting.com/). Cost: $36.90-42.30. Experience the exciting adventure of whitewater rapids and enjoy the natural beauty of the Pisgah National Forest as an experienced river guide takes you down the French Broad River on a memorable rafting journey. This trip is a 5-mile, 2-3 hour trip containing class I-III rapids. No rafting experience necessary; children must be 8 or older.

Just off Sweeten Creek Road turn on Fairview Road and at the top of the hill discover the Screen Door and Common Ground.
