PURPOSE: The purpose of this assignment is to immerse you in a variety of self-selected professional activities. Every professional in any career has an opportunity and obligation to contribute to the growth, development, and maintenance of the profession in a number of different ways. Most professionals support their local, state and national organizations through memberships in these organizations. Still others participate regularly in the activities sponsored by these organizations. To be a professional is to accept these responsibilities. In return, you receive the benefit of the collective wisdom of practicing professionals whose major goal is to further the profession and enhance its contributions to society in general.
Since one of the objectives of this course is to further your understanding of our profession, you will receive credit in this course for participating in a number of professional activities. There are, however, stipulations and guidelines for how you can earn this credit. Below is a list of professional activities for which you can earn professional involvement points toward a required number of 25. This portion of your grade will be calculated as follows: 25 points = A (5% of final grade), 20-24 points = B (4%), 17-20 points = C (3%), and below 17 = no credit (0). You are encouraged to take this opportunity to get involved early in the semester and not put this assignment off until the last few weeks.
You can earn up to 25 professional involvement points by participating in activities from at least two (2) of the major categories below. All points must be earned for participation during Spring Semester, not prior to it. It is anticipated that many of you will earn much more than 25 points.
You are encouraged to earn more if you choose. These are the
kinds of activities that enhance a resume and help you get a job.
All evidence must be turned in by April 30, 2004.
VERIFICATION: To receive credit for any of the below listed
activities, you must complete a verification form with the appropriate
signatures or supporting evidence. These forms should be filed
in your folder in the Lab as soon as the activity is completed.
Documentation must be turned in within a week after the activity is completed
or it will not be accepted.
