Chad Arnow - Bass Trombone (Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra) Chad maintains an active schedule as a performer and educator. He is currently in his 9th season as bass trombonist of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. For 10 years he has served as a substitute and extra musician with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, performing with them several times a year and appearing on four of their recordings. He has also performed with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, the West Virginia Symphony, Richmond Symphony Orchestra, and Kentucky Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his orchestral performances, he has also performed in numerous small ensembles, including the Kim Kelly Orchestra-Big Band, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Brass Quintet, and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet (of which he is currently a member). Chad serves as the Trombone Instructor at Xavier University and as the Low Brass Instructor at the College of Mt. St. Joseph. He also maintains a private studio of 15-20 middle and high school students. Chad received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Trombone Performance from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music. He has studied with Tony Chipurn (retired principal trombonist of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra) and Peter Norton (bass trombonist of the CSO and former principal trombonist of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra). Dr. Daniel E. Cherry - Trombone (Western Carolina University, Smoky Mountain Brass Quintet) Dan joined the WCU faculty in August 2002. He received his Bachelor of Music degree in Trombone and Voice Performance from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, where he studied trombone with Joel Pugh and Scott Moore and voice with William Florescu. He went on to receive both his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in Trombone from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music. While at CCM, he studied trombone with Tony Chipurn and David Vining and conducting with Terrence Milligan. Before coming to North Carolina, Dan was the Principal Trombonist of the Huntington Symphony Orchestra (WV). He also served on the faculty of Morehead State University in Morehead, KY, where he was a Lecturer of Music in 2001-2002. He is a member of the International Trombone Association, the International Tuba and Euphonium Association, The International Women's Brass Conference, the North Carolina Music Educator's Association, and the College Music Society. Dan has also performed with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (OH), the Dayton Philharmonic (OH), the Lexington Philharmonic (KY), the West Virginia Symphony, the Brevard Chamber Orchestra (NC), the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra (NC) and the Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra (SC). Dan was a member of the Royal Brass, the quartet in residence at the Ohio Renaissance Festival from 1998 to 2000; it was there that he met his wife, trumpeter Amy Cherry. Dr. Andrew Adams - piano (Western Carolina University)Dr. Andrew Adams is the Director of the Keyboard Area at Western Carolina University. He earned the Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the Kansas City Conservatory of Music where he was a student of Joanne Baker. His Master of Music in Vocal Coaching and Accompanying is from the University of Illinois. While there, he studied with John Wustman, the accompanist of such internationally acclaimed singers as Luciano Pavarotti, Birgit Nilsson, and Carlo Bergonzi. Andrew also coached the renowned soprano Susan Dunn, assisting in her preparation of Simon Boccanegra, Don Carlos, Giovanna d'Arco, and Aida. An accompanist at the 1990 Tanglewood Music Festival, he played in the master classes of soprano Phyllis Curtin and cellist Yo Yo Ma. From 2003 to 2006 Dr. Adams served as Vocal Coach and Director of Collaborative Piano at Iowa State University. In addition to his active coaching and accompanying schedule, he taught diction for singers, served as co-director of the Opera Studio Program, and was the official accompanist of the Upper Midwest Region Metropolitan Opera auditions. In August 2005 he accompanied a chamber recital in Kaliningrad, Russia as a part of the 750th anniversary of the founding of that city. To date, he has published four articles in The Journal of Singing, the official publication of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. |
