NC SDPI: North Carolina State Department of Public Instruction.

SDPI's Instructional Resources for Language Arts--lots of good things.

LEARN NC: finds "innovative and successful practices in K-12
education" to offer online; also involved in training of lateral entry teachers. Excellent site, many resources.

NCTE: National Council of Teachers of English. Good source of publications, teaching information, legislative information and lobbying, et cetera.

SUTEP: School University Teacher Education Program. In charge of your internship, but full of resources after you're in-service too.

NCATE: National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. This national organization evaluates and accredits teacher education programs. According to its website, “NCATE is a coalition of 33 specialty professional associations of teachers, teacher educators, content specialists, and local and state policy makers.” When they visit, we tremble.

NCCAT: North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching. Offers seminars in teaching, support for pedagogical study and research, support for candidates for national certification, et cetera. Based right across the highway from Western.

NCAE: North Carolina Association for Educators. Still figuring out what it does—seems to include legal defense of educators, legislative lobbying on issues of concern to educators, and fundraising for education.

NCETA: North Carolina English Teachers' Association. Professional community of English and Language Arts teachers in North Carolina. If you move to a different state, that state will probably have one too.

And, last but not least . . .

CEAP, our own College of Education and Allied Professions.
