Some of My Favorite Travel Destinations

Relaxing off the coast of Maine when I was in college (1992)

On my first visit to see the Matterhorn in Zermatt, Switzerland (2000)

In San Francisco with my mom (2002)

In one of my favorite cities in the entire world...Paris (2005)

Looking out over Prague, Czech Republic with my Rotary teammates (May 2006).  Prague's great, but if you get that close, don't miss a visit to the nearby village of Cesky Krumlov, a couple of hours south.  It's like stepping into a medieval postcard!

Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic

The view from inside the gates of the Birkenau concentration camp in Oswiecim, Poland (May 2006).
Prisoners were brought in by train through this gate, and most often were either gassed immediately or sent down the road a couple of miles to the Auschwitz concentration camp. Obviously neither is the most pleasant of places to visit, but they are places I believe all who are interested should see for themselves if they ever have the opportunity.  "Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it..."

At the Parthenon on the Acropolis in Athens, Greece (June 2006)

Athens, with all its historic sites, is fantastic, but so are Greece's beaches.  Kamari Beach on Santorini (June 2006).

Sunset over the island of Paros in Greece (June 2006).  Can you tell I REALLY LOVED Greece?

Why hiking around Zermatt, Switzerland can be confusing...and yep, I would have to have been heading to Tuftern that particular day...  But I made it!  (June 2006)

Standing underneath the "Via Claudia" street sign in Rome (June 2006).  That's the Colosseum in the background.  I thought Ancient Rome was pretty neat, but my favorite part of the area was Vatican City and St. Peters Square.

Pope Benedict giving his weekly blessing to the crowd in St. Peters Square, Vatican City (June 2006).

At Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul, Korea (July 2009).   It's in the heart of Seoul, and each time I visit there, it continues to stun me  when I realize that a mere 60 years ago, the city was in ruins as a result of the Korean War.  Now it's home to more than 12 million people, and almost 25 million in the metropolitan area surrounding it.

Shopping with friends in a market in Busan, Korea (July 2010).  If you're ever in Korea, even if you're not a "beach person" you MUST visit Haeundae Beach in Busan.  It's simply breathtaking.
