COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course will be devoted to studying Science Fiction Films (one of the most popular film genres) within their historical, social, political, and artistic contexts.  While the mechanics of the films will be important (mise en scene, directing choices, soundtrack, lighting, etc.) our focus will be on the narrative structure of these works as films, and we will be paying particular attention to issues of gender, identity, and the heroic-epic tradition from which Science Fiction derives.
