PROBLEM SET 8

An automotive manufacturer is interested in determining the effects of engine RPM, fuel road OCTANE number, and engine COMPRESSION

on output (Brake) horsepower (BHP). Data has been collected from an engine test stand and dynomometer taken from laboratory trials.

Test data are shown in the table below.

BHP RPM OCT. NO. COMP

225 2000 90 100

212 1800 94 95

229 2400 88 110

222 1900 91 96

219 1600 86 100

278 2500 96 110

246 3000 94 98

237 3200 90 100

233 2800 88 105

224 3400 86 97

223 1800 90 100

Requirements:

   1.  Using Excel, Run a regression procedure to predict BHP using RPM,OCTANE, and COMPRESSION as predictor variables.

   2.  Based on the results from Excel,  verify the regression SS, Residual SS, and Total SS by "manual" calculations

Verify the F value and significance.

   3.  Run the same data in Minitab and compare the results.

   4.  Submit a report of your findings.
